Description
Some noise and rattling from the train switch station is to be expected. What I don't get is why trains are idling for hours and why it is necessary to rev the engines. Besides the extra noise, it sends out low frequency vibrations throughout the neighborhood. It feels like ongoing mini earthquakes. Is there not a way to work together and minimize this?

It's one (or perhaps the only) switching engine for the CSX rail yard. The switching locomotive's function is to assemble the proper railcars into a long line of cars so that a more powerful loco can just backup, connect and depart to other cities.
The *problem* is that these diesel powered remote-controlled switchers are often poorly maintained. The one we have needs to be retrofitted with a new modern muffler and that's what the City of East Point, if they cared, should be pushing for. It did not used to be this bad, only in the last few months has this become untenable. We have multiple blankets permanently hung in front of the bedroom windows in order to deaden the noise enough so we can sleep.
